LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM IS SUPPORTING DIRTY CANVAS @ THE RHYTHM FACTORY
Thursday 19th July, Hackney Empire, London. From 1976 to 1981 a unique cultural movement – Rock Against Racism (RAR) – along with a political movement – the Anti Nazi League – successfully united black and white to stamp out the fascist movement of the day, the National Front. The movement's enduring symbol was the monster 1978 march to and gig in east London's Victoria Park which featured The Clash, Steel Pulse, Tom Robinson and many more. Next April, RAR's modern-day heirs Love Music Hate Racism will stage a huge “30th Anniversary of Viccy Park” carnival aimed at uniting people against Britain's contemporary fascists, the BNP. This night will launch nine months of events across London leading up to the carnival and 2008 GLA elections with an explosive old-meets-new bill featuring MISTY IN ROOTS, TOM ROBINSON, JERRY DAMMERS, LETHAL BIZZLE, DREW McCONNELL & FRIENDS (inc Patrick Walden),CAROL GRIMES, WILEY, THE TOY GUNS and many more.
We can announce more details of the very special guests for Thursday's Hackmey Empire spectacular. Kyle & Kieran from chart-topping Scots indie stars THE VIEW will now be guesting with DREW McConnell, joining LETHAL BIZZLE, ED from LARRIKIN LOVE, Seb Roachford from Acoustic Ladyland and rising star ALI LOVE. And that's not all - we can also now offer special discounts for 14-18 year olds and trade union members. Email or call us for more info on these offers, or to book direct with the box office call 0208 985 2424 or click the link in the banner at the top of this page.
Barking & Dagenham LMHR along with UAF will have a major stall at this year's Dagenham Town Show, in the borough where the fascist BNP have 12 local councillors. This year's Show features a music stage organised by the London mayor's Rise anti-racism festival. LMHR & UAF volunteers will be signing up local people to get involved in our campaigns. We aim stop the nazis winning votes in next year's London Assembly elections. Click the title for more details and please do get in touch if you can help out on the day.
Following last autumn's huge Dirty Pretty Things/Roll Deep gig, Barking & Dagenham LMHR return to Seven Kings venue The Cauliflower, with indie heroes THE PADDINGTONS headlining. There's also a LMHR visit to Dagenham's All Saints school during the day, with this over-14s show in the evening.
Last weekend saw the annual London Pride. The National Front's counter-demonstration was the first time a fascist group has counter demonstrated against Pride in many years. Five forlorn fascists held placards and a banner which included an attack on lesbian and gay marriage rights. They were met by thousands of marchers, revellers and activists who held up Unite Against Fascism's placards based on the pink triangle design that Hitler's Nazis used to identify gay men
Top grime/UK rap star Lethal Bizzle and former Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden have been added to an already stunning bill for this week's Rock Against Racism 30th Anniversary Celebration at Hackney Empire in London. Pat Walden will perform with 'Shambles bass player Drew McConnell. Aptly, Bizzle's new single is a storming update of The Ruts' seminal dub-punk rant "Babylon's Burning" - and there's sure to be lots of special collaborations on the night. For the full line-up see the Gigs & Events pages. Tickets for this very special occasion are just £15/£10concs - make sure to snap up yours NOW to avoid disappointment. Click here to buy.
Unfortunately original headliners Battle are no longer able to play at Barking & Dagenham LMHR's Cauliflower gig on Friday night (13th July). However, we're delighted to announce that top indie/punk band and long time LMHR supporters, The Paddingtons have stepped in to fill the slot.
Following a meeting at 7pm on "1977 when Babylon burned: punk, politics and resistance" with speakers Chris Salewicz, Drew McConnell, and Paul Sillett, there'll be an excellent LMHR gig with the legendary Don Letts DJing, jazz-rap maestros The Tribunes, muslim hip-hop from Poetic Pilgrimage, and the rap-soul party vibes of Messengers (formerly Nu-MCs).
LMHR are pleased to be one of the main partners in this year's Sutton In Shopland Festival, taking place near Southend-on-Sea in Essex. With the main stage named 'the LMHR stage' the festival has a brilliant diverse musical line-up but will also help alert and involve people in Essex to the threat of the BNP on their doorsteps.
On Thursday 19th July, Hackney Empire, London, we're proud to present a celebration of Rock Against Racism - the cultural movement that played an important role alongside the ANL in defeating the fascist National Front in the 1970s, and a model and yardstick for LMHR's campaign today in helping stop the BNP. As part of the Hackney Empire's "Spice Festival", RAR founder Red Saunders and LMHR have put together a fantastic bill with the cream of RAR legends alongside exciting modern-day LMHR-supporting artists, including: Misty in Roots, Tom Robinson, Jerry Dammers, Drew McConnell (Babyshambles) + very special guests, Wiley and friends, Toy Guns and much more. Tickets for this very special occasion are just £15/£10concs - make sure to snap up yours NOW to avoid disappointment. Click here to buy.

Otherwise discredited and irritating "investigate reporter" Roger Cook did provide a useful service back in 1997 in exposing BNP leader's Nick Griffin's disgusting racist bigotry and Nazi sympathies as can be seen in this video excerpt now up on youtube ... apparently the "nonsense" about the gas chambers is a "total lie". 'Vote Nazi - bring back the gas chambers' doesn't have quite the same appeal does it?
