Where We Stand
Our music is living testimony to the fact that cultures can and do mix. Music unites us and gives us strength, while racism seeks only to divide and weaken us. Whether it’s soul, indie, garage, rock, jungle, house, hip-hop or bhangra, music brings us together and offers a vibrant celebration of our multicultural and multiracial society.
The Rock Against Racism gigs of the 1970s demonstrated that a mass movement of music fans and musicians could help beat back rising xenophobia and racism fuelled by Nazi organisations like the National Front. Love Music Hate Racism will build on that tradition by generating a positive mass movement to drive today’s Nazis like the BNP out of the mainstream and into oblivion.
Where possible, we try to mix up different types of music, to make sure there are black and white artists together on the stage, and black and white fans together in the audience. So we have seen Babyshambles performing with Kano, Basement Jaxx and Tim Westwood with Punjabi Hit Squad, Ms Dynamite with Doves, Estelle with Pete Doherty, and Hard-Fi with Roll Deep to name but a few.
At our events artists champion the need to combat racism and beat back the BNP, with speeches from anti-racist activists and trade unionists hammering home the message. Our events are not just pop concerts – they inspire people to get actively involved in their workplace, community or college.
