Artists come out in support of voter registration drive

LoveMusic HateRacism is working in partnership with youth media platform YGTV today launched an online campaign called ‘#YoungVote17’. The aim is to encourage 18 to 24 year olds to register to vote in the forthcoming general election in Britain on Thursday 8th June.

Artists including grime star Saskilla, rock band Enter Shikari and classical singer Camilla Kerslake all made video clips explaining how important it is for young people to make their voices heard.

Recent elections such as the EU referendum and US presidential election have been divisive, with negative rhetoric aimed at migrants, refugees and Muslims by some politicians and sections of the media.

LMHR and YGTV’s campaign is seeking to promote a positive message to young people during the election by working with artists who are highlighting the importance of both political engagement and antiracism through the unifying potential of music.

The deadline to register to vote is: 11.59pm on Monday 22nd
