  • TUC Conference Centre, central London W1

On Saturday 17th February, UAF and LMHR are holding an important national conference. The British National Party (BNP) is receiving the highest levels of support for a fascist party in British history. In recent years its vote has increased in a context of rising racism, Islamophobia and attacks on multiculturalism. At the same time there has been much resistance from UAF marches and rallies to the hundreds of LMHR gigs and events up and down the country. We urge everyone from across the UK who wants to get involved in the fight against racism and fascism this year to come down to London on Feb 17th to listen, debate and link up with other anti-fascists. • The Artbar, Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London SW7

The first central London RAR gig took place almost 30 years ago to the day at the Royal College of Art. We now face an even greater fascist threat than the National Front were at that time - the BNP have 49 councillors nationwide and got 800,000 votes nationwide in recent elections. Racism and Islamophobia are rife. So it's a good time to remember how we beat the Nazis last time and discuss how we can organise to do the same today. On Wednesday, the Royal College of Arts and hosting a screening of the RAR/LMHR DVD by Alan Miles "Who Shot the Sheriff?" with the director himself, Specials legend Jerry Dammers and an LMHR speaker doing a Q&A afterwards. That'll be followed by a DJ set from Jerry Dammers celebrating Jamaican music of the last 30 years and more.

Love Music Hate Islamophobia

  • When: Friday, November 10th, 2006
  • Inter:mission (Westminster University Students' Union) Marylebone Road London W1

Muslims in Britain are at the sharp end of racism right now. Since 11 September 2001 Islamophobia has become the most visible – and “respectable” – form of racism in the Western world. The fascist BNP declared May's local elections to be "a referendum on Islam". As anti-racists in the UK have done many times in response to anti-Semitism or racism against British black and Asian people, we must reject the racist myths about Islam and stand shoulder-to-shoulder Muslim and non-Muslim to defeat racism and Islamophobia. We are proud to announce the first Love Music Hate Islamophobia event, Muslim and non-Muslim musicians performing together, as well as a debate on the issue of Islamophobia and how we can fight it. Performers and panellists include Mecca 2 Medina, UK Apache and Sadiq Khan MP.

CELEBRATE THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF CABLE STREET

  • When: Sunday, October 8th, 2006

On the 4 October 1936, the people of the East End of London prevented Oswald Mosley and his British Union of Fascists from marching through Cable Street in Stepney, then a mainly Jewish area. This happened just three months after the start of the Spanish Civil War when people from all over the world went to Spain to fight General Franco and his fascists in a prelude to the Second World War. In Spain and in the East End the same slogan was used: NO PASARAN! THEY SHALL NOT PASS!
