Love Music Hate Racism, Huddersfield Students Union, 22nd November 2002
Love Music, Hate Racism; we do both, and with another 300 like minded souls crammed into Huddersfield Students Union we realised we were not alone. What a great start to the Huddersfield campaign!
The combination of cheep beer and quality tunes created the platform for an excellent night. However what was more important to us was the mixture of young enthusiastic people, supporting a positive political cause. It was fantastic to see so many different kinds of people brought together for two reasons; their good taste in music and hatred of the Nazis.
The class music definitely contributed to the atmosphere. DJ Gypsy spinning exceptional beats ranging from funky reggae, hip-hop and jungle. Manchester Hip-Hop duo Kashif and Omen Ra went down a storm with their wikid political rapping and down to earth spirit. Then local band Kava Kava raised the roof with their funky tunes. Amateur, yet top class dancing by a few individuals who shall remain nameless supported this.
Overall the event was a complete success and we both bought the T-shirt to prove it. The anti-racist messages provided by Caz throughout the night were well received and there was a good feeling of unity and willingness to tackle racism together. Most of the audience was displaying the message on a sticker, badge or T-shirt by the end of the night. We left with somewhat blurred vision but a pleasant sensation inside our ears and mind, as well as the enthusiasm to overcome the Nazis. We will certainly be returning to future Love Music Hate Racism events.
