“MUSIC AND THE MOVEMENT”
Pete Doherty of Babyshambles joins great radical singer and activist Billy Bragg, Martin Smith, author of the book “John Coltrane: Jazz, Racism and Resistance” and a member of the Unite Against Fascism steering committee, and Pandit G from Asian Dub Foundation, to discuss the relationship between protest movements, politics, and music, from Leadbelly and Woodie Guthrie in Depression-Era America to Motown, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and the US civil rights movement of the 1960s to Rock Against Racism in Britain in the 70s to Fela Kuti and anti-imperialism, to Love Music Hate Racism today, to name but a few.
Why not come to listen and take part in this debate just before enjoying the LMHR/Unite gig at the Astoria immediately afterwards (doors 5.30pm)?
