The Rock Against Racism gigs of the 1970s demonstrated that music could beat back the National Front. Love Music Hate Racism build on that tradition by generating a positive mass movement to drive today’s Nazis out of the mainstream and into oblivion.
Sam Duckworth also known as unsigned laptop-acoustic wunder-kid Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly has pieced together a bill of honest contemporary political songwriters reigniting the revolution.
Dan Treacy is The Television Personalities. Ever since releasing their first DIY-single in 1977, ”14th Floor”, and the classic follow up ‘Part Time Punks’ later the same year, The TVP’s have always been about Dan’s song writing, his honest words and unique voice. Alan Magee idolised him, as do many still the 60´s imagery of the artwork and album titles like ‘I Was A Mod Before You Was A Mod’ there was a darkness that very few wanted – or were even able- to see or accept at the time. Dan Treacy was always out of time. He never fitted in. Even when punk was just starting to happen he was already mocking it, moving on. He still is. It’s timely that after 11 years dormant the Original Babyshambles returns, perhaps slightly wiser as illustrated on new single ‘All The Young Children On Smack, All The Young Children On Crack’ released on the Domino label.
Having just released an album called ‘9 Red Songs’, acclaimed songwriter Chris T-T is a red menace of post-Bliar acoustic folk protest music, perfect for a Love Music Hate Racism show. The Dusty Soundsystem is Robin Bennetts (Goldrush) collaborative projects, anti war, anti Bush, pro Luther King and Rodney Bingenheimer Sunset parties. Tonight sees him double up with Piney Gir in country duet mode. Frank Turner ex Million Dead star and everyday anarchist has been causing a ruckus as a solo performer bored with grunge and ignited by everyday stories of love, loathing and revolution. Another exile from a rock and roll combo (Lucky Thirteen) Dave House’s songs highlight the inconsiderate nature of people in everyday urban life.
