Our major fundraising event for the year will be taking place at London’s top club, Fabric, on Thursday 30th November 2006, from 8pm-3am.

Babyshambles’ Drew McConnell has teamed up with LMHR to ‘curate’ a fantastic line-up of indie/rock, grime, hip-hop and drum’n'bass.

Drew McConnell, Babyshambles: “The work Love Music Hate Racism is doing is incredible, it restores my faith in humanity’s ability to feel solidarity and indignation at injustice, and actually act on it. It’s easy to pretend things aren’t happening when you can’t see them, and especially when they’re not happening to us directly. LMHR continues to bring to our attention the reality of what’s going on with the BNP, and how they prey on some of Britain’s most troubled areas. We should listen to LMHR and feel a duty to use what we have to react. Well what we have is music, so join us, a motly crew of indie bands, grime acts, and techno dj’s - at Fabric on November 30th to help send a unified message to the BNP - Britain is a multicultural society and that’s how we like it.”

    By olivia Fletcer.

Love Music Hate Racism’s biggest fundraiser of the year took place on Thursday 30th November and took us in to the wee hours of the 1st December. The night consisted of a fantastic line up of Indie bands, drum n bass dj’s, grime and garage mc’s which pretty much resemble a mini festival. The event was supported by CWU, RWD Magazine, Myspace, Unite Against Fascism, and Monorex.

Babyshambles’ Drew McConnell helped curate the amazing line-up – getting some of his friends involved in LMHR including The View, Fionn Regan, Statik, The Paddingtons amongst others.

The Social, Louie, The Mentalists, and not forgetting the Jungle / Drum n Bass dj’s in Room 3 – Miss Pink and LDouble all helped warm up the crowd although the crowd didn’t really need it. The Ultra Montaines (who came all they way from Ireland to support the cause), The Idle Lovers, and Virus Syndicate who took to the stage in room 1. Whilst in room 2 Jenna G and Manchester based band Synapse increased the pace with some live drum n bass. The Heartless Crew and their live band performed for the second time ever, and The Mystery Jets demonstrated that anything that can be used to make music - with their band consisting of cowbells, maracas, and symbols – there may have even been a triangle in there. The Paddingtons much-anticipated set was sadly cut short, also clashed with Babyshambles set which undoubtedly caused a wave of screams and waving arms when a seemingly composed Pete Doherty came out on stage – yes he made it! Veteran Irish legend Shane McGowan also (surprisingly) made it on stage with Babyshambles to perform a couple of songs which went down fantastically.
LMHR speakers also took to the stages between performances to say a few words about the cause – these included Weyman Bennett (UAF), David Okoro (Anthony Walker Foundation), Siobhan Endean (Amicus), and Martin Smith.

There really was a great mixture of music, with Jerry Dammers ( The Specials) spinning some jungle infused reggae up in room 2, and Statik mixing it up grindy stylee in room 1.

Graffiti artists Monorex were also entertaining the crowd – not with their musical talent, but with their artistic talent. LMHR supporters, Monerex were busy through the night creating a one off piece of art work for LMHR in the club.

Back in room 1, post Babyshambles the crowd were still good to go – The View played, followed by Logan Sama and MC’s Jammer, Skepta, L.Man, and many many more, whilst Room 2 was a different temp with Fionn Regan and Drew (Shambles) on the double bass. In room 1, BBC 1xtra’s Cameo finished the night off, and Andy C finished off in room 3.

All in all, a fantastically positive night, and LMHR raised funds and awareness which is what it was all about.

A sincere thank you from Love Music Hate Racism goes out to all artists, management, speakers, and to all who attended.
