Following on from the huge success of last years event at HULL CITY HALL and the FREEDOM FESTIVAL in the summer we are back with the message LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM for another amazing musical event and we need YOUR help to spread the word.
We hope you can use this opportunity to help show the people of Hull that we can be active in the fight against racism, especially with the current BNP climate. These events spread the message that RACISM IS NOT WELCOME IN OUR CITY and we need to make sure that this message is not forgotten.
30 years ago punk fused with reggae and formed a new breed of SKA music which saw the rise of the TWO-TONE era. This music included bands such as MADNESS, THE BEAT, THE SPECIALS, THE SELECTOR, plus many more and its main goal was to UNITE AGAINST RACISM.
Today this music and its message is still very prominent and we are very honored to have two of these artists back to join the young musicians of today to fight for the same message.
If you need any more information or would like to get involved please feel free to call me on 07896688215.
Many thanks

Press release: 25 November 2008
Funded by Hull City Council, The Warren in partnership with Hull Youth Council presents Love Music Hate Racism
Last week saw the British National Party’s membership list published on the internet; member occupations included teachers, doctors, nurses and a small but significant number of police officers who since 2004 have been unable by law to belong to the BNP.
The Hull postcode was there, highlighting the number of people in the region who belong to the party and reinforcing the need to fight against racism that is obviously a lot closer to home than we may have hoped.
Next week sees the return of Love Music Hate Racism at Hull City Hall providing our local bands with an opportunity to showcase their talent next to artists which played all them years ago for the same cause that we are still sadly facing now.
The day will start with an eclectic mix of Hull music from all corners of the scene and lead on to an evening of local and national heroes featuring pioneers of the two tone movement still supporting the fight against racism.
Lee Billingham from Love Music Hate Racism said:
“Love Music Hate Racism is proud to once again be staging a major anti-racism party in Hull. Racism and the threat of fascist groups like the British National Party (BNP) continue to be a serious concern in our society. The two things feed off each other. The disgraceful scapegoating of refugees, “foreigners”, and British Muslims by parts of the media and some misguided politician’s increases support for the BNP. When the fascists manage to con people into voting for them, the level of racism and racist attacks shoot up. The publication of the BNP’s membership list online last week underlined both why they are not a normal political party (otherwise why would people want to keep their membership a secret?), AND that it is not acceptable that BNP members should not be allowed to hold jobs of influence and power in the public service. They have done poorly in elections in Hull in recent years - a credit to the city’s voters. Hull City Council and the city’s youth services and projects like The Warren have played a big part in undermining racism in the city, and should be congratulated for taking such a proactive stance - an approach other cities would do well to copy. But the presence on the “BNP list” of over 60 BNP members in the Hull area shows we cannot be complacent. These people will be out campaigning for the BNP to win a Euro MEP for the Yorkshire & Humberside region in June 2009 elections. We urge everyone to get involved in the campaign in your workplace, school, college or local area - support Hull Love Music Hate Racism and our sister campaign Unite Against Fascism. Top music acts are once again coming to Hull to bring people together in a celebration of unity against racism. Join us on the 6th to send out that message: “Love Hull, Hate Racism!”

INFORMATION ON THE ACTS:
Neville Staple
Neville shot to fame as a member of 2Tone mega-group The Specials, sharing vocal duties with Terry Hall. An incredible performer full of energy, Nev and his current tight-as-you-like live ska band will treat you to the live equivalent of the best ska ipod playlist in the world, drawing on Specials songs and other classics from the era. Hailing from Coventy, Nev has also played many LMHR gigs, including a memorable appearance onstage with fellow Special, Jerry Dammers, as well as Hard-Fi for an infamous 2005 performance of “Ghost Town” at London’s Scala.
The Beat
Stars of the early-80’s “Two Tone” UK ska explosion, The Beat,in common with other acts on the label, were a pioneering young multiracial band, that fused Jamaican ska music and punk to produce brilliant hits that were the voice of inner-city youth in their era. Still going strong with almost all original members, including unforgettable frontman Rankin’ Roger, the Brimingham-based act have played many LMHR gigs, just as they played Rock Against Racism back in the day. Expect storming renditions of classics like “Mirror in the Bathroom” , “Hands off She’s Mine” and anti-Thatcher standard “Stand Down Margaret”
Sway
The brilliant MOBO Award-winning UK hip-hop artist has come back in a big way this year with his ‘Signature’ LP featuring hit collaborations with both Akon and Lemar. Sway finally makes it up to Hull for the LMHR/Warren Xmas bash, his car having broken down on the way to August’s Freedom Week event. Sway entertains and educates all the way with his clever word-play, humour and knack of getting the crowd involved. We’re delighted to have Sway up in Hull for his what is his second LMHR appearance – don’t miss.
Get Cape Wear Cape Fly
A one-man army for the anti-racist cause, Sam Duckworth (aka Get Cape.Wear Cape.Fly) is a unique talent, starting out with just an acoustic guitar and a laptop, but growing into a major artist, writing a slew of unforgettable songs across two great musically eclectic albums. Not content with doing his own thing, Sam has also got a rep for being an experimenter and a band leader , fronting a supergroup with the likes of Natty, Killa Kela and cocknbullkid at last year’s Glastonbury LMHR show, and playing with everyone you can think of at Damon Albarn’s Africa Express events. Sam joined LMHR as a punter at Glasto 2005 and has been with us ever since, playing countless gigs and pulling mad fundraising ideas like when he auctioned for LMHR a solo performance in your tent over breakfast at the Leeds Festival. Sam plays solo at the City Hall, watch his emotion and intelligence shine through.
