‘TIME OUT’ MAGAZINE HACK PUT TO THE SWORD BY LMHR SUPPORTER’S “LETTER OF THE WEEK”

Following an even-m0re-than usual rambling rant by resident Time Out scribbler Michael Hodges - which carried an oblique pop at LMHR and indeed any musician daring to support a political cause - Guy Taylor wrote an excellent letter in response which got the London listings magazines. Read to see how Guy came back….

Dear Timeout,

Music and politics don’t mix, eh Hodges? It must be said that the major
political issues of the day do provide something for bands of all
competencies (and we get a huge number of very poor political CDs sent
in by aspiring bands, who will continue to aspire for the rest of their
days. Aside from the Clash becoming ’slightly po-faced’ in Michael’s
opinion, he really should check his facts a bit more. I first saw Pete
Doherty on stage at the Astoria playing with The Libertines for Love
Music Hate Racism gig, the son of Rock Against Racism. Since then
Babyshambles have been a constant feature in the LMHR scene. The
anti-fascist festival on Trafalgar Square a couple of years back was to
feature another performance from the ’shambles, but Pete got nicked
that morning, Drew McConnell came on solo.

Lethal Bizzle, Dirty Pretty Things, Hard-Fi, The Beat, Jerry Dammers,
Noisettes, Tim Westwood, Anti-Flag, Belle & Sebastian and The
Paddingtons are all po-facedly supporting LMHR if Michael could be
arsed to click on a link and check.

Add to that the bands that associate themselves with causes from Make
Poverty History to Campaigning Against Climate Change and you’ll notice
how wrong Hodges is, for a f**king change.
