The libertines back lmhr
The band many see as the UK’s best, The Libertines, have giving their backing to Love Music Hate Racism.
LMHR ran stalls at two of the band’s three sellout gigs at the Forum in London before Xmas, receiving a lot of interest from Libertines fans and raising over ?200 in the process. On the last night, joint lead singer Pete Doherty’s only words from stage throughout the gig were “tonight we’re doing 18 songs - as many songs as the BNP have council seats. It’s all about Rock Against Racism!”
Earlier, Pete told us “I don’t think you have to be a particularly developed human being intellectually or spiritually to despise racism. It may be easy to complacent, but we need to encourage people to fight racism whether with words or actions. Count me in - I’ll fight!”, while co-singer Carl Barat said, “People don’t necessarily realise there’s still such a problem and that there’s something rotten in the state of racism in this country. I support this cause and encourage everybody to do the same”.
The Libertines have pledged to play a benefit show for LMHR in the next few months.
