Rock Against Racism Unite Against Facism

We regret to announce that sunday’s lmhr/unity festival is postponed

Unite and LMHR would like to sincerely apologise for any arrangements anyone has already made in respect of Sunday 6 June and any inconvenience this reluctant postponement may cause you. The LMHR London festival will return, at an outdoor venue, next year.

The reason for the postponement is that the main headline act, The Libertines, have had to pull out of Sunday’s show due to the ill health of guitarist Peter Doherty. Without The Libertines, the show just isn’t viable in a venue this size. Until today the band and their management at Creation Poptones still felt that the band would be able to play. Unfortunately, Peter’s recovery from illness has not progressed as quickly as everyone expected, and the rest of the band are understandably unwilling to do any show without Peter at this difficult time. Please also see the separate official statement from Libertines’ management.

Unite Against Fascism and Love Music Hate Racism send our very best wishes to Peter, his family, and friends and wish him the speediest possible recovery.

If you already have an advance ticket, you will be able to get a full refund from the Unite offices or from Bookmarks. Any credit/debit card details given over the phone to Unite will be destroyed and not used.

Unite and LMHR urge everybody to do all they can to prevent the election of fascist BNP MEPs or local councillors/GLA members in the elections on Thursday 10 June. Use your vote, if you have one, to vote for any candidate other than a BNP one. If you aren’t yet able to vote, get involved in what Unite is doing in your local area - leaflet your local area, school, or workplace, join activists petitioning and touring areas warning of the BNP threat.

We would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to try to stage a major musical protest against racism and fascism ahead of June 10. That work will not be in vain. Hundreds of artists big and small across the UK have now publicly stated their determination to stop the fascists, and many have pledged to play LMHR gigs in the coming months. Last Sunday’s Badly Drawn Boy/The Music gig in Liverpool was an amazing, inspiring night, for example. As a result. many more people have become of aware of the threat posed by the BNP and are getting involved in the campaign to do something about it.

We’ll leave the last word to Pete Doherty:-
“I don’t think you have to be a particularly developed human being intellectually or spiritually to despise racism. It may be easy to becomplacent, but we need to encourage people to fight racism whether with words or actions. Count me in - I’ll fight!”.
