Racism has become a massive issue for this General Election, and we can be sure the fascist British National Party will be aiming to capitalise on the stories in the press about asylum seekers, Muslims, and travellers in particular. They will be standing over 100 candidates nationally. Where the BNP campaigns in elections, racial tension rises. The BNP are hoping to get significant votes and to grown their organisation in this election, with an eye on next year’s local council elections, where they have a greater chance of actually winning seats and thereby increasing their influence.

LMHR will be aiming to use the positive power of music to counter all of this, with gigs big and small that celebrate our multicultural society and music scene and aim to get more people actively involved in campaigning against the likes of the BNP where they live, work or learn.

Our sister organisation Unite Against Fascism has learnt of the BNP’s plans for the election, including their main target seats where they’ll be concentrating their racist propaganda. Unite will be conducting a mass campaigning of leafletting and other activity on the ground everywhere the BNP intends to stand - to expose the BNP as racists and fascists who lie and con people into voting for them.
