Anti-bnp demonstrations: update from unite against fascism
BNP national demo faces threat of ban
The UAF has been campaigning for the national demonstration called by the BNP in Keighley, Yorkshire, to be banned. At the same time, the UAF has called for a peaceful anti-fascist counter-demonstration if the BNP demonstration takes place.
We have now received a letter from the Chief Inspector of West Yorkshire Police indicating that he is applying for a banning order against the BNP demonstration.
This is a big step forward and a tribute to the campaign against the BNP.
If the Chief Inspector’s application is successful and the BNP demonstration is banned, then the anti-fascist counter-demonstration will not take place.
The UAF is therefore asking the national anti-fascist movement to remain vigilant. Your efforts are bearing fruit. But it remains to be seen what the precise position will be, for example, whether the BNP demonstration is directed to a different location. Therefore please continue to book coaches and mobilise people to come to Yorkshire on November 5th - contact the Unite office (details below) regarding your transport details.
We will keep you posted of all developments as they happen. We will continue to press for a clear ban on the BNP demonstration and we ask anti-fascists to be ready to respond in a fast moving situation.
