Love Music Hate Racism shows its respect to late Reggae legend Desmond Dekker

Love Music Hate Racism would like to give out its deepest sympathies to the friends and family members of the late reggae legend Desmond Dekker. Dekker died suddenly from a heart attack last night in his Surrey home aged 64.

Dekker was best known for his 1969 hit “Israelites”. It was an inspiration to many in the reggae music scene, paving the way for stars such as Bob Marley and Pete Tosh. He played a key role in influencing the birth of reggae in Britain and is oftener cited as a key influence on the reggae, ska and punk movement, all movements which paved the way for Rock Against Racism and Love Music Hate Racism.

He will be deeply missed by the campaign, and everyone who knew and enjoyed his music.
