CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY + ANTI-RACISM: MAJOR BHM EVENTS AT BARKING COLLEGE
October is of course designated Black History Month (BHM). We are delighted announce two BHM events at Barking College later this month - in the borough where the fascist BNP have 12 local councillors. The events are organised by Barking College, the GMB union and LMHR to celebrate both Black History and also our shared black and white people’s history of fighting racism. The events will bring together educators and students, trade union members, music artists, celebrities and politicians and of course campaigners and local community groups in one place for the first time since the election of the BNP councillors in Barking & Dagenham in May. Read on for full details.
On Thursday 19th October, Barking College Students’ Union will have a screening of Alan Miles’ LMHR DVD “Who Shot the Sheriff?” with guest speeches and performances from Rodney P, Metro Riots, OT Crew, David Okoro (Anthony Walker Foundation), Lee Billingham (LMHR).
On Saturday 28th October, Barking College, the GMB union’s London Region Race Committee and LMHR present “Educate and Celebrate” at Barking College. Debates, workshops, music, film and food to celebrate Black History and the need for all our people to carry on the fight against racism and fascism today.
