Gallows are nearing the end of the UK leg of their worldwide tour which saw Love Music Hate Racism stalls at key dates plus Lethal Bizzle as main support.
Last week saw celebrated young music video director (Mo Ali - Lethal Bizzle/Fish Go Deep and many more) shoot a videofor Roll Deep's song "Racist People" - which will also act as a promo for the LMHR campaign and inspire more music fans to join the fight to stop racism and the fascist BNP. Roll Deep penned the song after playing at LMHR's memorial concert for racist murder victim Anthony Walker, and premiered it at last year's LMHR Trafalgar Square carnival. The NASUWT teachers union this year agreed to fund a music video for the song as part of their support for LMHR. Read on for more pics and reports from the shoot, and watch out for the first clips from the finished article.
Last week's NME featured a full page on the LMHR, NUT-sponsored CD compilation for schools. (See online version of the article here). We caught up with one of the artists taking part, Mercury-nominated singer-songwriter Fionn Regan, to talk about LMHR, music, and politics.
As we announced before, lots of top artists are specially writing and recording exclusive material for the National Union of Teachers-supported LMHR CD that's appearing on the cover of the NME next month, aimed at involving more young people in particular in the campaign to stop the BNP. LMHR & NME have been recording many of these sessions, and here's the first short video with many more to follow. This is Babyshambles' Drew McConnell, along with The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr, Fionn Regan, Jamie Noisettes and Seb Rochford, recording 'Ampersand'... On Sunday 9th September Love Music Hate Racism and Unite Against Fascism staged a great night at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) conference in Brighton. Over 200 TUC delegates as well as people from the local area packed into Club Revenge to hear fantastic performances by longstanding LMHR supporters Adelaide McKenzie of Nu MC's - who got some of the trade unionists on stage with her for some freestyling! - and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, along with trade union leaders and campaigners, who outlined plans for taking on the BNP in 2008's Greater London Assembly and local council elections.
The LMHR CD for schools, supported by the NME and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has drawn a fantastic response with many top artists contributing exclusive tracks. The CD will be covermounted on the 13th October issue of the NME, and nme.com will be hosting a LMHR minisite from where you can download the tracks. Read on for full details.
This Sunday, September 9th, will see a very special joint LMHR/UAF event, taking place as part of the social events for this year's Trades Union Congress. The event will feature Get Cape Wear Cape Fly playing live, as well as Specials legend Jerry Dammers DJing, and another liver performance from the excellent Nu-MCs. Trade union leaders and campaigners will be speaking briefly between the acts to outline the UAF & LMHR campaigns to stop the fascist BNP around next year's Greater London Assembly and local council elections. The event is taking place at Brighton's Revenge club. Entry is free to TUC delegates, or by donation to everyone else.
The London Evening Standard is running a poll asking if the BNP should be allowed to be on the Facebook social networking site. Because many people are unaware of the poll, and fascists are encouraging their supporters to mobilise, it is currently showing 64% of in favour of the BNP staying on Facebook.
