“UPRISING AGAINST FASCISM”
That was the headline from Tuesday’s Independent front page, after more than 2,000 people joined the Unite Against Fascism demonstration and disrupted the planned address of the Oxford Union by fascist BNP leader Nick Griffin and Nazi “historian” David Irving. Do google news and youtube searches for “Griffin Irving Oxford” to see many many other reports and videos that underline the size, diversity and anger of Monday night’s brilliant protest. LMHR played our part in too, with Oxford musicians like Dusty Soundystem and Mr Shaodow playing superbly inbetween speakers on a PA arranged by major Oxford music festival Truck, positively emphasising the multicultural society the BNP would want to get rid of.
The fascists are trying to get respectability for their racist anti-democratic poisonous views by “debating” at universities under the guise of free speech. But there is no debate to be had with those who want to encourage attacks on non-whites and to destroy democracy and no free speech for the Nazis’ victims. All the BNP do is use such debates as a platform, but Monday’s protest shows they can be stopped. Check the full report of Monday night’s events on the UAF website
