MOBO has always been a strong believer in the power of positive energy that comes from music. The MOBO Awards were born out of a desire to ensure that talented individuals had a platform upon which to perform and that they weren’t marginalized or pushed into a ‘niche’ pigeon hole. Where words often fail, music speaks and the work of LMHR towards breaking down barriers in music echoes the messages of MOBO in the strive for equality in the music industry, and beyond.
From sound sytem culture - to church music - to indie we are all rapped up in one. This makes sense as the colours and nationalities in our band range from Jamacian to Irish to Romanian and English. We reckon that whether you're white, black, slim or fat get up and move your body, rock non stop - why not?
I feel right now that LMHR is running the streets in bringing awarenes to
racism in the UK. It's a serious issue and effects people of all races in
different forms. LMHR brings everyone together to highlight this - and the
parties are off the hook with live stage shows from the UK'spremier
underground artists and djs. Thats the best form of exposure i can think
off. LMHR has my full support.
"A main factor in the rise of racism is lethergy. There are many people who say they're against racism but they don't do anything to help spread awareness. If we all pull together we can beat this disease down. What LMHR are doing in educating and bringing awareness on racism issues
through music and other activities is something we are very much behind as a band."
We are from Hull and 200 years ago William Wilberforce, the Hull MP, started a campaign to end the slave trade in Britain. He made things happen. However, even today there are 27 million people living lives that are not their own. We think that this was the worst angle on Racism - you could buy people "50 to a Pound" and treat them worse than dogs. Back then, the anti-slavery movement was the first to use poems and songs to make their point. So, the Padds are proud to come from Hull, the home of a protest movement that is still relevant today.
...As for the BNP and it affiliates; a pointless, pathetic and entirely threatening institution that we have an obligation to address with whatever means we have to hand. Tonight it is music. There is little doubt in my mind that these people prey upon the weak willed and vunerable. Their ideals are not radical. They are outdated; a deeply flawed philosophy opposing an intellgent moral majority. My sympathetic side may momentarily insist that these narrow minds require our understanding, that they are re-educated. Unfortunately their exclusive and extreme beliefs have harrassed the free existence of difference for such an extended period of time, I have little choice but to keep my sympathy back for those that deserve it. Fuck the BNP!
i've got mad love for LMHR and what they stand for. We should be united as one in this country and the all over the world. Its about time an organisation such as LMHR stood up for the justice and equality people of all religions and races deserve.
The work Love Music Hate Racism is doing is incredible, it restores my faith in humanity's ability to feel solidarity and indignation at injustice, and actually act on it. It's easy to pretend things aren't happening when you can't see them, and especially when they're not happening to us directly. LMHR continues to bring to our attention the reality of what's going on with the BNP, and how they prey on some of Britain's most troubled areas. We should listen to LMHR and feel a duty to use what we have to react to help send a unified message to the BNP - Britain is a multicultural society and that's how we like it.
I had great pleasure in doing my bit in the fight against racism by performing at the LMHR event, I would continue to support the cause to eradicate these vicious and uneducated cowards. When will the colour of a mans skin be of no significance than the colour of his eyes???
?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe BNP now has 14 councillors in London, and have gained ground on the back of a rise in racism. In the recent, council elections, the BNP declared that this was a ?¢‚Ǩ?ìreferendum on Islam?¢‚Ǩ¬ù, and they are dividing communities with vicious, racist lies.
It's an honour for Anti-Flag to be working with "Love Music, Hate Racism". Organisations such as "LMHR" give inspiration and lend hope to countless artists, visionaries, activists, workers, human beings the world over. With every song we write and every show we play, Anti-Flag, attempts to use music as a catalyst for social justice and equality. Music is the reason each member of Anti-Flag is involved in activism, and "Love Music, Hate Racism" is ensuring that music will reach and inspire others in the way music has inspired us?¢‚Ǩ¬¶. Music can breakdown barriers and bring people together regardless of nationality, social class, sexual orientation, religion, gender, or colour of skin. Humanity has progressed too far to allow one step backwards?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Find your song, sing it loud, end racism and bring all people together
I think there is no place for racism or fascism in modern society. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s damaging and also plays no positive role in peoples lives. In the year 2006 people should have moved on from this but obviously there is still a fight for racial equality.
I hope that through music and other things that we can bring and understanding and equality to society and allow everybody respect each other no matter about their ethnicity or cultural background. I love the work that the love music hate racism are doing to fight this battle and lend my full support to any campaigns and positive initiatives that they are doing to eradicate this problem.
The pulse of this band beats from the gems that have come from wonderful eras in music ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú for example Motown and Northern Soul. The 1970s led by example, when Northern Soul took off and all-nighters saw people of all cultures dance the night away until their soles wore thin. Thats what its about for us! F*** the barriers, lets dance over them!
At a time when the racist BNP looks likely to make gains in council
elections in England, and mainstream politicians and sections of the media
play into their hands with scare-stories about immigrants, it is important
for anyone with a voice to send out a clear message that any form of racial
discrimination is completely unacceptable. For this reason Belle & Sebastian are delighted to be taking part in the LMHR day at Trafalgar Square.
Ignorance and misunderstandings in society give the BNP a platform, but we have to big up and nuff respect to LMHR for taking a proactive role in fighting against this evil by peaceful means. Music is the best communicator for the youths of today, for real!
Even when they're trying to pretend they're not racist thugs, you'd hate to have BNP people in charge: uptight puffy-faced morons with barely a sex life between the lot of them. If you think Blair's damaging your civil liberties, try gigging, clubbing, meeting your friends for coffee, getting a decent haircut, shopping or just walking the streets after dark if the fascists run your town. For f***nuts to triumph, all the good people have to do is stay at home and not bother. Please go vote in the council elections on Thursday 4th May. The BNP have put out thousands of leaflets packed full of lies about immigrants, trying to scare decent people into voting for them. Don't let them win, just because you've got a hangover and want to watch Phillip and Fern.
The BNP are nasty ignorant thugs. Please don't vote for them. I hate a lot of what the Blair government has done but they are light years better than these fascists.
I don't think you have to be a particularly developed human being intellectually or spiritually to despise racism. It may be easy to be complacent, but we need to encourage people to fight racism whether with words or actions. Count me in ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú I'll fight!
People are talking about immigration, emigration and the rest of the f***ing thing. It's all f***ing crap. We're all human beings, we're all mammals, we're all rocks, plants, rivers. F***ing borders are just such a pain in the f***ing arse.
Living in London, it can be quite easy to think that racism is a relic of a bygone, stupider time but you merely have to flick through the weekly music press to see how there is still too little representation from anyone in who isn't very white and at least slightly male. Love Music Hate Racism and their work is of absolute vital importance.
Music is a powerful force to bring young people of different race and religion together. The need to fight racism is a moral duty.
Racism is a disease in this, our country, good 'old Britannia', but a disease i believe there IS a cure for. A disease, like any other that must be battled, researched and in the end conquered!
In my opinion it is a very natural, but still basic and primitive reaction, to feel threatened or detached from anyone or anything that is superficially different to you. To educate and inform people living in a multicultural society of the importance of coexistence is key. But when supposedly 'well educated' people can form racist political parties, this can not be excused as ignorance - this is hate.
As a group made up of mixed races and cultures we cannot accept in this day and age, racial prejudice in any way, shape or form. We feel strongly that the UK should and will be a place for people of all colours, races, shapes and sizes to live side by side in harmony.
It is important to let people know about the prejudices going on in our society today so we can try and change things. A lot of prejudice comes from lack of awareness?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ LMHR brings these issues to our attention?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ there?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a lot of racism happening everyday in our society and if we can bring attention to this then we can move closer to stopping the threat of racist attacks.
It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not hysterical to compare what the BNP is doing now with what Hitler did to start with. People laughed at Hitler?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Nazis at first, but we know what happened in the end. We have to stop the Nazis now! This is a great opportunity to bring people together ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s what music can do.
Taking influences and getting inspiration from all sorts of cultures and backgrounds is what music is all about.
We find it hard to believe that people still have prejudices over race, colour or creed... we can’t just sit back and let it go unchallenged.
...everyday brings fresh talk of enemies in our midst. The BNP senses an opportunity, and they are working flat out to establish themselves as a voice in british politics.
We've got to do something to represent the true people of Britain, our multicultural society
