Success in Stoke for Love Music Hate Racism
By Olivia Fletcher
An impressive 800 people came from as far as London and as wide as Milton Keynes to destination venue: Liquid club, Hanley, Stoke on Trent to catch a fantastic Love Music Hate Racism line up on Thursday night.
This was the first major event in Stoke on Trent for two years, following recent local elections and BNP councillors holding a total of 5 local council seats in the area, Love Music Hate Racism have set up a local group in the area which is thriving with enthusiasm.
The night itself was a huge success, with headliners The Kray Twins being near enough the only Bhangra act to have performed in the city, one young man from Stoke said “It’s great to see so many different people in Liquid coming together, and to have different music, I’ve only heard Bhangra music a couple of times in Stoke before, it’s never been like this”.

Pendulum also rocked Jumpin Jack’s (downstairs in Liquid), as well as 1xtra’s LDouble spinning some serious DnB in the room upstairs. Andy Rourke of The Smith’s also did a DJ set, and Dj Shinobi, L Dot Man, MC Doctor and Soundbwoy Entertainment had an array of support throughout their performances in the main room.
Many local people showed their alliance for Love Music Hate Racism on the night by donating their time and services including stilt walkers, local restaurants and takeaways, there was even a masseuse offering services to guests in the VIP room. British boxing champion Gary Reid British gave his support by saying a few words on stage, as well as members from LMHR Stoke.

Further events are planned for Stoke in the near future including events during black history month and at Keele University. Anyone who wants to get involved in future projects pop us an email on : lovemusichateracism@hotmail.com.
