If you have an idea for an event in your town, or if you are a performer and want to make your gig a LMHR one, we can help you organise it - putting you in touch with performers, publicising your event on this website, pointing you in the right direction for venues and technical equipment.
Getting Organised
-
Read the guide
- The Love Music Hate Racism Organisers Guide tells you everything you need to know to get your event off the ground.
-
Find a venue
- Look for a venue in your local directory, or look at posters and flyers for other events. Call the venue up and ask how much (if anything) they charge. Some places may waive the charge if you explain it’s an anti-racist event.
-
Find some performers
-
Use Pledgebank.com to get support
- Pledgebank lets you say “I’ll do something if X number of people will help me do it”. You can use the form on the right of this page to get started. But first check out the Help out with these events section and see if anyone in your area needs help.
Be on the lookout for local acts and DJs. If you are in a band yourself, hook up with other local bands to make a bigger night. Don’t forget to be realistic though… Radiohead aren’t likely to play down your local.
Promoting Your Event
-
First off, let us know about it
-
We can help promote your event and put you in touch with venues and artists in your area.
Email us the details and we’ll add your event to the website. -
Advertise, Advertise, Advertise
- Use our online poster generator to produce customised posters for your event. Or visit the downloads page for more posters, flyers and contact sheets.
-
Get in touch with Love Music supporters in your area.
- First of all take a look and see if there is a Love Music mailing list for your area. It’s a great way to get in touch with people in your area and get advice on how to put on your event.
-
Spread the word
- Don’t underestimate word of mouth. Tell everyone you know, email them, text them and get them to do the same. Post on any related forums you are a member of, and contact local student unions or other organisations that may be interested.
After your event
-
Did you record it?
- If you did let us know? We are always looking out for MP3s to add to our podcasts, downloads and internet radio station. We can help promote your music.
-
Have you got any pics?
- We love to see photographs of your gigs. They best way to get them to us is to load them onto flickr.com and tag them up as ‘lovemusichateracism’ . They will then appear on this site. Alternatively you can email them to us.
-
Write a review
- If your event is listed on the events page just click on “add review”. If not, email us with your review and we’ll add it to the magazine.
-
Tell us what you learnt
- Tell us where the good venues are in your town, let us know the details of any supporters you signed up - anything that might be useful to other people putting on Love Music gigs near you.
-
Don’t forget to let us have any funds you raised
- It’s money from smaller gigs that helps us put on national events and free carnivals, and pay for posters and leaflets to take the fight to the BNP. The best way to send us money is online via NoChex. Alternatively, you can mail it to PO Box 2566, London N4 1WJ. Please make cheques payable to Love Music Hate Racism.
