Road Make To Walk: LMHR and partners celebrate 60th Notting Hill Carnival

On Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August, Love Music Hate Racism alongside the National Education Union (NEU), UNISON and Hotwax celebrated the 60th anniversary of Notting Hill Carnival alongside hundreds of supporters.

The LMHR 2026 float theme, “Road Make To Walk”, commemorated the struggle to keep Carnival on the streets of Notting Hill in August 1976. Fifty years ago, members of the Caribbean community successfully resisted attempts by the police, local authorities and a small number of residents to move Carnival away from its home.

At 3pm on both days, the float fell silent for 72 seconds to remember all the lives tragically lost in the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Notting Hill Carnival remains a key vehicle of cultural resistance at a time when the far-right is attempting to foster hatred and division across Britain.
